It was my last day visiting Arizona (I live in Colorado) and
Joel and I trekked over to Picacho Peak State Park between Tucson and
Phoenix. The
park entrance is really close to Interstate 10. The adjacent photos shows the prominence of Picacho Peak
Yes, the peak really is as steep as it looked, and the mountain's summit is where we were headed!
Here is a picture near the beginning of the Hunter Trail.
The trail heads on the other (westerly)
side of the mountain, and there are MANY saguaros
in this desert region. Note all those saguaros down along the desert floor!
Near the top of the summit, I captured a nice shot
looking toward the east, which includes the state park headquarters.
It should be noted that there are quite a few steep stretches of the trail that require metal ropes
and hand railings. The park is very clear that this hike is only for experienced hikers.
At the Picacho Peak summit. It was so beautiful on top! :)
